Brentford forward Yoane Wissa has secured his place in the club’s history by becoming their leading Premier League goalscorer, surpassing Ivan Toney.
Wissa achieved the milestone during Brentford’s thrilling 2-2 draw against Manchester City at the Gtech Community Stadium. The 28-year-old now boasts 37 Premier League goals for the Bees.
Head coach Thomas Frank praised Wissa’s contributions after the match, noting his strong partnership with teammate Bryan Mbeumo. “He probably should have scored two if I’m being a bit critical,” Frank said. “But he has been outstanding for us, and the way he has stepped up alongside Bryan since Ivan’s absence is remarkable. The partnership between the two of them is quite unique. I am extremely proud.”
Wissa’s Journey with Brentford
The Congolese forward joined Brentford in August 2021 from Ligue 1 side Lorient. In his first two seasons in English football, he scored seven goals per campaign. Wissa elevated his performance during the 2023/24 season, netting 12 times, and is already close to surpassing that total with 11 Premier League goals so far in the 2024/25 campaign.
His recent strike against Manchester City played a pivotal role in helping Brentford recover from a two-goal deficit to secure a point against the reigning champions.
Brentford’s Dynamic Duo
With Bryan Mbeumo also in impressive form and only a few goals behind Wissa, the duo has become a driving force for Brentford. The club is one of only three Premier League teams to have two active players among their top three all-time scorers in the competition.
