Goodwin NV Prohibited from Operating in Sweden
The Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) has added Goodwin NV to its list of Curaçao-based gambling operators banned from offering services in Sweden. The ban takes immediate effect, though Goodwin NV retains the right to appeal the decision.
Reason for the Ban
The decision followed Spelinspektionen’s investigation, which revealed that Goodwin NV’s website, Immerion, targeted Swedish players without holding a valid Swedish gambling licence. A test purchase confirmed that Swedish customers could create gambling accounts, which constitutes a violation of Swedish gambling laws.
The website also featured a FAQ section and other content in Swedish, and marketing materials from affiliated partners were directed towards Swedish customers.
Implications for Goodwin NV
Spelinspektionen rarely imposes fines on unlicensed foreign operators, as this is deemed ineffective. Instead, the ban serves to inform Swedish consumers that the operator lacks proper licensing. This action may also impact any future licence applications from Goodwin NV in Sweden.
Additionally, payment operators and affiliates working with the company are notified of the operator’s unlicensed status. Spelinspektionen may also request payment blockages on specific accounts. For Immerion, payments are facilitated by Luckyluck Ltd, a payment operator registered in Cyprus.
Immerion’s website remains available in over 20 languages, including Swedish, English, German, Indonesian, and Japanese.
Wider Action Against Curaçao-Based Operators
Goodwin NV is the latest Curaçao-based operator to face prohibition in Sweden. During 2024, other companies, including Cosmogames NV, Galaktika NV, MRSL NV, Santeda International BV, Small House BV, and Jer-Team NV, were also banned from operating in the Swedish market.
