Nottingham Forest aim to solidify title contention in Tuesday’s Premier League clash at the City Ground, facing leaders Liverpool.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has acknowledged Nottingham Forest as credible title contenders ahead of the pivotal match. Forest, currently third in the Premier League, trail the leaders by six points and are chasing a seventh consecutive league victory.
Slot Recognises Forest as Genuine Competitors
Speaking ahead of the game, Slot commented on Forest’s position in the league standings, emphasising their consistent form.
“If Forest are up there with Arsenal, Chelsea, [Manchester] City and us, then they are definitely in competition with us,” Slot stated. “They deserve this recognition based on their results and the way they play. Tomorrow’s match will be a very difficult challenge.”
Forest handed Liverpool their only league defeat of the season in September, a 1-0 victory at Anfield courtesy of Callum Hudson-Odoi’s goal from a counter-attack. Slot highlighted the effectiveness of Forest’s tactical approach under manager Nuno Espírito Santo.
“Their playing style fits their squad perfectly,” Slot explained. “Chris Wood epitomises their work ethic, while their quick wingers and creative midfielders excel in creating opportunities, whether in counter-attacks or structured play.”
Nuno Focused on the Present
When asked about Slot’s praise, Forest manager Nuno avoided speculation.
“We ignore what’s around and focus on our tasks,” Nuno said. “September’s game was a long time ago; both teams are different now. Tomorrow is a new game, and new things will happen.”
Forest’s coach acknowledged Liverpool’s overall quality and the threat posed by players like Mohamed Salah and Luis Díaz.
“[Liverpool are] a fantastic team with quality all over the pitch,” he said. “We face them with respect and aim to compete at our best.”
Team Updates
Nuno confirmed that Forest have no significant injury concerns, although players from their last match are being assessed for fitness.
Slot, however, faces challenges, with Joe Gomez sidelined due to a muscle injury and Darwin Núñez suspended after accumulating five yellow cards.
The fixture promises to be a decisive moment in the Premier League title race as both teams vie for supremacy.
