Legal Action Against Sportsbet in Australia

A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Australian betting operator Sportsbet. A group of bettors is seeking refunds amounting to millions of dollars, alleging that the company facilitated “illegal” live betting. Under Australian law, live betting on sports is prohibited online unless the entire bet is placed via telephone.

The lawsuit focuses on Sportsbet’s “Fast Code” service, which allows customers to select their bets online but requires a phone call to finalise the wager. Plaintiffs argue that those who used the service in the past six years are entitled to a refund. Filed in the Supreme Court of Victoria, the lawsuit excludes bets placed on horse, harness, or greyhound racing.

Elizabeth O’Shea, the lawyer representing the plaintiffs, commented:
“Betting on a sports event after it has commenced is prohibited in Australia unless it occurs entirely over the phone.”

Son of AFL Legend Admits to Fraud

Dylan DiPierdomenico, son of Australian Football League (AFL) icon Robert “Dipper” DiPierdomenico, has pleaded guilty to fraud. While serving as the national sales manager for Protege Sport, a golf equipment company, he allegedly misappropriated AUD 140,716 to fund his gambling addiction. DiPierdomenico is scheduled to appear in court again at a later date.
